An Overview of Hinduism and Beliefs

Hinduism is one of the oldest religion on earth and one of the most followed religions in the world. It has been present in India for more than 5000 years, and has evolved and changed over the centuries. Its followers, Hindus, are for the most part found in India, and the faith of Hinduism is mostly practiced in that part of the world. The beliefs and practices of Hinduism are based on the Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas and Bhagavad Gita.

Hindus believe in one Supreme Being, Brahman, which is the essential form of all things and which permeates all reality. Furthermore, they believe that there is one absolute Reality, which is the source and origin of all material and spiritual worlds. Hindus worship an all-pervading force that manifests itself in many forms and reveals itself through many names. This force is known as Ishvara or Brahman in Sanskrit, and it is believed that Ishvara/Brahman is the only true Reality.

Hindus believe in the concept of karma and that all human beings have a pre-existing destiny that is determined by their previous actions. This means that all individuals are responsible for their actions and that those actions will shape their future outcomes. Furthermore, Hindus strongly believe in Reincarnation; it is believed that the soul gets transferred from one body to another upon death, and that this cycle of birth and death will continue until liberation from material existence.

Hindus believe that the path towards liberation from material existence is to obtain moksha, or enlightenment, through performing devotional practices such as prayer, chanting, and meditation. Hindus also believe that service to others will bring divinity and alleviate suffering. Hindus strongly believe in the concept of ahimsa, or non-violence, and seek to live a life of harmony with all living beings.
