Judaism, the ancient faith of the Jews

Judaism is one of the oldest monotheistic religions in the world, with a long and complicated history going back thousands of years. For many people, the name “Judaism” is synonymous with the Jewish people, but the religion actually predates them. It gets its name from the Hebrew word Yehudah, which refers to the ancient kingdom of Judah that existed in the 10th century BCE in what is now Israel.

Judaism comes from the Torah, which is the holy text of the Jewish faith. The Torah is divided into five books, which are known as the Pentateuch. It’s believed to have been written by Moses, who was a major prophet of the Jewish people. According to Jewish tradition, the Torah was first given to the Jewish people on Mount Sinai.

The word “Jew” is an English adaptation of the word Yehudah. It is used to refer to members of the Jewish faith, or anyone who follows or is descended from the religion. Jews trace their ancestry to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, who are known as the patriarchs of the Jewish people.

The Jewish faith is based on the practices and beliefs that were laid out in the Torah. Its followers believe in one God and practice a set of religious laws known as mitzvot. Jews also observe special holidays and rituals such as Hanukkah, Shabbat and Passover.
