Buddhism was founded in India in the 6th century BCE by Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha, who was born in a royal family in what is now Nepal. Siddhartha Gautama left his life of luxury to seek answers to the suffering he saw around him. After years of study and meditation, he attained enlightenment and taught others what he had learned. His followers spread his teachings, and Buddhism soon spread throughout Asia.<\/p>\n
