There are many different ways that people in Buddhism interpretation of what names mean. In some cases, it is believed that the name a person is given at birth can be an indication of their destiny or their path in life. In other cases, it is believed that the meaning of a person’s name is not as important as the energy they put into creating their own destiny.<\/p>\n

There is no one answer to this question as the meaning of a name can vary depending on which tradition of Buddhism you follow. In some traditions, a name is given to an individual based on their karma or past actions. In other traditions, a name is given based on the qualities that the individual embodies.<\/p>\n

How do Buddhists choose their names? <\/h2>\n

In Burmese Buddhism, Dhamma names (bwe) are in Pali and chosen by the head monk of the monastery in which one is ordained. The traditional Burmese naming system, in which the monastic’s day of birth stipulates the first letter of one’s name, is used to select the name.<\/p>\n

I am grateful to have been given my Buddhist name. It is a reminder of my commitment to the path and of the qualities I aspire to develop. I will cherish and strive to live up to this name throughout my life.<\/p>\n
