Origins of Christianity

Christianity is one of the world’s major religions, with its beginnings tracing back to the first century AD. It is based on the teachings of Jesus Christ, as written in the New Testament, and is also closely associated with Judaism, since Jesus was a Jewish rabbi. The New Testament also outlines the various beliefs and practices of the early Christians, including the importance of Sunday worship, baptism, fellowship, and confession.

Christianity began in the Middle East and is now followed by billions worldwide, with new followers joining the faith every day. It is the largest religion in the world and a major presence in many countries, providing comfort, hope and purpose to its members.

In Europe and North America, the majority of Christian denominations are Protestant, but the Roman Catholic Church is dominant in Latin America, Italy, Spain and Eastern Europe. In the Middle East, Christianity consists of three main forms: Syrian Catholic, Maronite and Greek Orthodox. Other denominations include Lutheran, Anglican, Baptist and Pentecostal.

How Does Christianity Work?

At its core, Christianity is based on a belief in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This is seen as a divine act of redemption that reconciles humanity to God and opens the way for eternal life. Christians strive to live according to the principles of God’s kingdom, so that their lives reflect the character of Christ and are an example of his teachings.
