Forms of Christian Worship
Christianity has many forms of worship around the world, each shaped by time and place of origin. Traditional worship takes place in churches, with services led by a priest, bishop, or pastor. There are also non-denominational services held in non-traditional venues such as airports, cafes and museums emphasizing a more contemporary style.
In more modern expressions of Christian faith, worship often takes a multimedia form, using the Internet, TV, and radio to reach a wider, diverse audience. Worship services may include liturgy, Scripture readings, music, and prayer. They are often designed to be emotionally engaging, with lively music and visuals to inspire a connection with the divine.
Practices of Christianity
Other forms of Christian practice include weekly or daily prayer, private devotions, and the study of Scripture. It may also include acts of charity and service, along with rituals such as the Lord’s Supper or Communion, baptism, and confirmation.
There are many forms of Christian practice, from the informal to the formal. Some Christians might pray at home or meet with a small group of friends to study the Bible, while others may participate in a larger weekly service at a church, cathedral or other place of worship.
Christian Beliefs
At the heart of Christianity lies the belief in a god known as the Father, who sent his son Jesus to Earth to die on the cross for the sins of humanity. The death and resurrection of Jesus is said to be the means by which humans can be saved from their sins and come into a right relationship with God.
The core beliefs of Christianity are centered around Jesus and his teachings, which are outlined in the Bible. Christians also believe in the Holy Spirit, which is said to be the presence of God in the world. Additionally, Christians believe in the Trinity—God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—and in the afterlife, where believers will experience eternal life in the presence of God.

Throughout history, Christianity has served as an important force in shaping society and culture. In the past, it has inspired art, literature, education, science, and social structures. Most countries in Western Europe have a strong Christian background; many still have Christian state churches that are backed by government funds.
In many countries, the influence of Christianity can still be felt in much of the day-to-day life. Children may attend state-funded schools with a Christian ethos, such as faith-based colleges or universities. In some places, especially in the United States, Sundays may still be considered as a day of rest, as prescribed in the Bible.
Cultural Influences of Christianity
Christianity has greatly influenced culture and traditions in many countries. It has shaped how people think about topics such as marriage and family life, or ideas of justice and morality. It has also helped to shape the way people view their place in the world, giving a sense of purpose to life.
Christmas, for example, is celebrated as the birth of Jesus in many countries, and Easter is an important festival that marks his resurrection. Even outside of religious practices, popular culture has adopted Christian symbols and references, such as musical theater performances of Jesus Christ Superstar and books such as The Chronicles of Narnia.
Spiritual Growth of Christianity
Although Christianity is often seen as restrictive, conservative, and traditional, many of its principals promote a spiritual growth and growth of individuals. At its heart, Christianity encourages the individual’s pursuit of personal growth and understanding of God based on each individual’s personal experience.
Christianity teaches that we are called to share God’s grace and love with ourselves and the world. As such, Christians strive to continue their own personal growth in faith, developing strong spiritual disciplines and practices like prayer and meditation, being involved in the local church or ministry, and being active in service to their community and beyond.
Docility in Christianity
Christianity is based on the belief that God has and will always have the final say in matters. As such, there is a docility to the faith that encourages believers to be open to God’s will, even if they don’t fully understand it.
Christianity insists that those who follow must abide by its teachings and traditions, even when they may not align with our own natural inclinations. It is through this surrender to God that believers grow in faith and are guided along a path laid by Him.
Relevance of Christianity Today
In an increasingly secular world, many wonder if Christianity is still relevant. Despite the decline in numbers of committed followers, the teachings and values at the core of Christianity are still relevant today.
The core teachings of Christianity, such as love for others and striving for peace, are still relevant today. The notion of salvation through Jesus is still relevant. And the spiritual practices and traditions surrounding it can still provide comfort and spiritual sustenance to people in search of meaning and connection.
Christianity and Our World
As belief in God has declined over the past few decades, Christianity has evolved and adapted to the needs of modern life. People still look to Christianity for moral guidance, comfort, fellowship, and ultimately, to have a relationship with the Creator.
Christianity teaches us the importance of taking care of each other and our planet, of striving towards peace and justice, and of living a life that glorifies God and brings honor to him. It is a faith that teaches us to take care of the most vulnerable among us, to love our neighbor, and to practice charity and kindness.

Christianity is uniquely able to provide a message of social justice, given its long history of engaging in’social activism for the betterment of society. By engaging inissues of social justice, such as economic and racial justice, Christians can help break down barriers that impede access to opportunity and resources for those who are most marginalized and underrepresented in our societies.
Christians still strive to confront social inequality and injustice, and to defend and promote the fundamental rights and protections of all people. In doing so, they seek to further God’s call for justice.
Political Engagement and Christianity
Christians increasingly recognize the importance and responsibility of engaging with political issues and systems. This engagement can take many forms, from advocating for laws that promote justice and equity, to pushing for greater access to education and healthcare, to demanding accountability from politicians and other policy makers.
Many Christians strive to create communities and networks that foster collaboration and collective action, promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of faith, and inspire collective action for the betterment of humanity. In doing so, they take an active role in making the world a better place.
Missional Living and Christianity
Missional living is a concept rooted in the Christian faith that seeks to bring glory to God by engaging in acts of service, justice, and mercy. It advocates for living a life that is focused on both serving God and serving one’s neighbor, and encourages Christians to use their gifts and talents to share the love of Christ with the world.
Missional living calls us to seek a fuller understanding of the place of the Church in God’s mission and to live our lives in service to His call. It affirms the importance of personal witnessing, advocacy, and public policy work, as well as activities that build relationships and serve our communities, such as volunteering and contributing to the welfare of the poor and oppressed.
