Christianity is often seen as a death cult by those who don’t understand it. But what is a death cult, exactly? A death cult is a religious or spiritual cult which focuses on death and offers a way to transcend it. This includes beliefs that members will experience a spiritual or physical resurrection from death, or that members will enjoy eternal life after death. Christianity has aspects of both these ideas: in teaching that Jesus died on the cross before being resurrected, and in its promise of an afterlife in Heaven.
In Christianity, life and death are intertwined. Jesus taught that believers must be prepared to die with Him, and take up their cross in imitation of His death and resurrection. This is what Jesus meant when He said, “I am the resurrection and the life” (John 11:25). As Jesus said in John 12:24-25, “Unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much fruit. He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.”.

Christians Choose To Sacrifice For Others

In 1 Peter 4:10, the apostle Peter said, “As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” This verse exemplifies the selflessness of Christians, and their commitment to using their gifts, talents, and resources to bless others and bring glory to God.
The example of Jesus Himself is also instructive in this regard. Jesus devoted Himself to teaching, healing, and providing for the poor. He said in Matthew 16:25, “For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.” This speaks of the kind of death that Christians are called to: a death to oneself and a dedication to the will of God and to the service of others.
It is this kind of self-denial and self-sacrifice which the Christian faith encourages. Christians are called to lay down their lives in service to God and to others. This is what Jesus meant when He said, “No one has greater love than this, that someone would lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13).

Jesus said in John 16:33, “In this world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” In this passage, Jesus was speaking about the hope that believers can have in Him, that in spite of the struggles of life, there will someday be an ultimate victory.
Death Is Not The End
